François
de Salignac de La Mothe Fenelon
Out
of the turbulence of the seventeeth century comes
a deeply spiritual call to Christian perfectoin. François
Fenelon was a great churchman, an eloquent man of
letters and a figure of controversy. In a time when
oppression of every sort -- physical, mental and spiritual
-- was a way of life, Fenelon's constant concern was
for the ordinary people who had been victimized in
body, sould and spirit.
Though he was one of the great mystics of church history,
Fenelon letters to friends and acquaintances concerning
the spiritual life are remarkably practical and applicable
even today.
